Circle Three 88 / Melissa
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.
Last weekend I went to the Air and Space Museum in DC and learned that the Wright Brothers spent years building the plane and didn’t let anyone see the plane or a flight until they had a signed contract in hand.
Talk about high stakes. Consistency, dedication, and profound belief lead to success, not unlike the job of a mother.
And yes, that might be the first time the Wrights have been compared to mothers.

College Sports Are a Treasure. Don’t Turn Them Into the Minor Leagues. From Notre Dame’s President and the Director of Athletics. College athletics are a treasure. Although some of the declarations go too far, I support Notre Dame’s commitment to an educational mission, reminiscent of the “4 for 40” mission, when a four-year decision will affect 40-plus years of life.
The Real Competition is the Water. Ravi Gupta’s blog on facing reality begins with a proverb taking place on the African plain that reveals two lessons.
There are two important concepts for entrepreneurs that come from this:
Speed: How soon do you have to face reality?
Severity: What is the cost of ignoring it?

J-Curves vs Stairs: Two Approaches to Career Growth. Sometimes you come across that perfect article. This — from Molly Graham — was that for me this week, where she so clearly describes career bets, approaches, and how to frame the struggles.
To me, the J-Curve is the alternative to taking the Stairs: staying in your comfortable role and getting promoted every 2-5 years, walking up to (hopefully) somewhere great. Growth is slower, but the stairs are a safer bet.
As for me, the wild journey of the phone project gave me a hunger to always be on a J-Curve. I love learning curves so steep that I feel like I might fall off of them, and I love challenging myself to grow as fast as I can.
I’ve had success and failure with these jumps but I have learned to be comfortable with the deep discomfort of throwing myself off a cliff every couple of years and to love the opportunity that comes with the risk.

Market Byte: Highlights from Consensus 2023. This was my first year at Consensus, the Austin, TX conference labeled as the U.S.’s biggest crypto/blockchain/web3 conference. Grayscale provides commentary on conference happenings. I spent time on the ground seeing the articles claims in person: the builders and the Franklin Templeton team’s new on-chain Money Market Fund. What particularly struck me while being there was the sense of progress. Despite a long year and challenging year, the innovations continue.

In honor of my mom, Melissa. A card and small gift never quite feel like enough in return for what I’ve been given and continue to receive.
As I get older, the time becomes more valuable, the conversations more meaningful, and the time together more sacred. Thanks, mom.
But I know that he won't stay without Melissa.
Yes I know that he won't stay without Melissa.
Stay Curious,
