Expectations (Five Short Stories). ~extremely~ short stories here from the Collab Fund teaching us:
it’s never as good as it looks
resist the urge to jump to the next thing. Enjoy the present
change is slow. profound change and innovation occurs more slowly than our imaginations
it can happen to you too. the good and the bad. stay humble always
the grass might be greener on the other side, but maybe because they use pesticides
Timeless Readings. My curated collection of questions, and some of the places I’ve found the answers. Please send any recommendations for books. I’m currently reading The Lean Startup by Eric Ries.

How to write LP updates. Article here from Signature Block. About one month into the last quarter of 2022. FirstWatch just put out its fifth investor letter. We’ve slowly found our voice, and sending the letter has been a key way to find alignment and build relationships with LPs. Other than being concise and consistent, the LP testimonials in the article reminded me to include how the firm evolves and to always reflect the brand.
“To build a stronger relationship with your investors, regular LP update emails are very important. Transparency demonstrates to LPs the kind of relationship you value, particularly because VC has historically been opaque. Including both highlights and lowlights helps demonstrate this transparency.”
brain bites: technology
As crypto regulation looms ahead, here are the bills to look out for. Here (paywall). Effective regulation is still the largest obstacle ahead for the mass-adoption of crypto. As companies tip-toe into the space, they need clear regulation. Personally, looking for clarity around how digital assets will be divided between the SEC and CFTC.
The Current State of Bitcoin. Here from FirstWatch. Bitcoin has fallen from the limelight in recent months, for good reason. But it’s worth looking at the network during this time to understand why that might be the wrong assessment.
“It’s easy to be critical of bitcoin. It sits 75% off its all-time high; new and exciting blockchains are being released or upgraded; key adoption narratives have slowed.”
Lyric: Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes
Circle Three playlist here.
Carnes was a crossword answer this week. I didn’t know Kim Carnes reimagined the song from the early 1970s original; a reminder that nothing is truly new, just repackaged, and it can still change lives. Bette Davis herself thanked Kim for the song.
She'll tease you
She'll unease you
Just to please ya
She's got Bette Davis eyes
Stay Curious,
